Transform Fear With a Little Help From Your Little Kid
9/3/2024
Here’s an easy way to dismantle fear and anxiety that blocks us from what we think might make us happy. This is a process that I use in my own life, sometimes daily! This little life coaching tool is meant for anyone, anywhere. Use it with love and let the challenges just try and stop you!
Our minds are filled with thoughts that may keep us from pursuing what we believe will bring us happiness and fulfillment. Some refer to the negative, unsupportive chatter as the ego mind or our shadow self. This internal dialogue at times can take over. This part of us resists the transformation we desire and has us staying in a place that feels safe. When we attempt something new or step onto an unfamiliar path, we often experience feelings and thoughts that lead to indecision or confusion.
For example, a friend began making travel plans to see her family and friends across the country. She would enjoy the trip, yet she felt confused and conflicted. Why? She had thoughts and feelings that generated fear and stress at the thought of making reservations and leaving the comfort of her home. She went on to tell me that she had a bad experience in a TSA line in at the airport that she would be flying in and out of on this trip.
Feeling so uncomfortable at the thought of leaving her home and perhaps repeating a fearful experience, she was at the point of canceling her plans altogether. I asked her, “how do you want to feel about planning and taking this trip?” She told me she wanted to feel and be excited about it!
While I was getting ready to do an oracle card reading regarding her dilemma, we talked more about how she can immediately accept her feelings that her inner child was experiencing. Identifying and reflecting on one’s feelings objectively is an instant, profound and effective process. This process is easily accomplished with a trained coach. Immediately she relaxed. I shared the energy of the cards and she started to see and hear some new ways of making choices based on what she wanted instead of what she didn’t want. She generated positive messages that gave her new feelings, insight and ideas on how to make the trip enjoyable and comfortable, even exciting!
It was suggested that she accept the feelings and thoughts of fear about going through TSA and then think of herself as PURITY which was depicted on the card as a beautiful, white unicorn with a gorgeous aura walking calmly through a meadow. We both laughed at the thought of her as a white Unicorn going through a crowded TSA line! And at the same time, she realized that she was transforming something inside herself, her spiritual self who was enjoying the fun of making travel plans. We pulled one more card which gave her even more positive energy to lean on. It was the Trust card; encouraging her to trust in her life to bring her a positive travel experience. Toying with and accepting this idea was foundational energy enabling her to reflect and imagine being as cool and serene as a white unicorn going through a crowded airport.
What had changed within her was pivotal for a new thought process, generating new feelings within her. Instead of taking the road most traveled in her mind, she calmly stepped onto a new path with new, supportive visions, feelings and ideas for herself as she traveled. She created a visualization in her mind choosing supportive thoughts and generating new feelings. With a few promptings from the cards, she started to feel new ways of being calm and confident. These new thoughts and feelings assured her that she could create a safe and peaceful journey that would be to her liking. Within the hour she accepted and transformed her limited thinking and negative feelings into exciting possibilities, so that she could move forward with her travel plans. She left the session happy and at peace knowing that she would take the trip and all would work out well.
We can all do this for ourselves. We can change our state of being from one of fear by identifying and accepting how we feel in the moment to one of peace as we love and become present for ourselves. I call this process “Talking to our inner child.” We accept our pain, love it, and be one with it. As we heal this part of ourselves, we move into loving states of being and then move onto a new path of peace and happiness. This is a practice that we can all learn at any age or on any stage of our life path.
I encourage all of us to practice talking to our inner child when we feel fear, stuck, discouraged and unloved, anything that isn’t LOVE. This practice is practice, not work. It can be used anywhere, in the grocery store, while we are driving as we feel our nerves tighten, or while waiting in a long line when our two-year old child has a temper tantrum that pushes us into impatience and frustration at the end of a long day. It’s a profound tool that we have within us to heal our wounds and trauma when we are triggered by thoughts or feelings.
Imagine teaching ourselves and our children how to talk to that little kid inside of us. All of us can learn to be and live from our divine, spiritual power, accepting challenges with loving forgiveness and grace. What a nice way to be in this World.
Let your fear be your gifts with the help of your inner child.
